This book is about how to acquire the most important tool in one’s lifetime: Discipline. I wrote this book to educate people about the benefits and truly remarkable impact of discipline. The book is unique because it is very simple, short, and straightforward. No sugar coating, just the hard facts. The goal was to keep the book simple and around a hundred pages. There are three parts to the book:

I. What is Discipline?

II. Six Steps to Acquiring Discipline

III. You’ve got it!

Discipline took me several years to acquire, but it turned my life around. It brought me confidence, strength (mental and physical), success, values, and endless drive. My desire is to share my secrets for success with the public.

Throughout the book I refer to the image of a person opening a door and through the door seeing a reflection of him or herself in a mirror. This is an image I call on again and again, because it symbolizes the relationship I built with myself in the years it took me to acquire discipline. It was all about me fulfilling a contract with myself. This book is about you and the constant struggle you have with yourself to fulfill that same promise. If you step through that door and don’t like what you see in the mirror, then this book can help you develop the discipline to enjoy stepping through that door rather than dreading it. It’s a daily battle as you seek out that elusive ingredient to balancing home and career, personal time and family, and the other forces that life hurls at you on a daily basis.

There are two players. It’s you against you. The battle lines have been drawn, and the field is filled with many obstacles; your career, family, health, taxes, etc. It’s like being in a fifteen round fight everyday and the opponent is you. You’re constantly hitting yourself. When you get hit and stumble, discipline is the tool to help pick you back up again. Discipline shows you how to never become complacent, staying focused on your goals regardless of the unplanned crises that enter your life. The book also focuses on the real values of discipline – there’s so much more than becoming successful in any materialistic or superficial sense. You will see that the successes that discipline brings have more to do with deep, inner personal satisfaction, and integrating what matters to you most in life, than with achieving some monetary goal.
